The Mexicali Experience at Promenade Greenhills

Filed in Restaurants 2 comments

It was movie night and despite of the rain and expected arrival of Typhoon Pepeng, we decided to leave the house.  We had an hour to kill before we get our popcorn and I was starving!  I wanted something different so it was decided — Mexicali here we come.

We all ordered and the wait was okay.  The burritos were the first to be served.  I had to wait for a few minutes more for my enchiladas and chips.

A friend ordered his burrito without beans for health reasons.  He checked and to his dismay, his order had beans.  Good he double checked.  The store supervisor was called and he reiterated that he requested that the beans be removed.  I remember him asking the waitress that brought their food whether it had beans and she said there wasn’t any.   Had my friend trusted her, then we would’ve missed our movie and would’ve been on our way to the hospital.  To me, this was unacceptable.

I’m happy to report that the manager didn’t argue with my friend and replaced his order with the correct one.  He brought the food himself and apologized for the mistake.  Good save!

Ah, the smile from the cashier / waitress was a good sign.  She did her best and was very friendly to all the customers.  I wish the manager smiled the same way though.

I would recommend that management train their store personnel more on customer service and to include active listening skills in the module.  Why?  Our experience at the counter when we were ordering was average as well, since I had to correct the order taker since she heard us ordering three (3) iced teas instead of two (2).

Overall, I would rate my experience as average.  Since the quality of food is part of the whole customer experience, I was disappointed.  My husband and friend though loved the food.  My enchiladas wasn’t the same.  There were more beans than usual and the sour cream plus cheese were used sparingly.  I wonder how their cheese enchiladas would’ve been if I ordered that.

Mexicali’s food has declined compared to what it was many years ago. Their cheese enchiladas used to be the best thing *ever*, but in the last couple of years, it’s been drier than the Sahara.
