The LTO Renewal Experience

As expected you don’t see smiling faces.  From the guard at the gate, to the person at a hut that collects your papers, and as you go through each process.

Fortunately even with the absence of a smile, the overall service was satisfactory.

As soon as we looked for parking, the guard at the exit gate told us we needed to go through the mandatory drug test and medical examination.  He gave us directions to the nearest clinic.  I appreciated this since we skipped the unnecessary step of inquiring at the renewal center.

The trip to Sentral Drug Testing was a short walk.  The good news is the people at the clinic were fast and efficient.  They helped each customer from the first step to the last.

  1. Pay PhP 300.00 for the laboratory test.
  2. Submit urine sample.
  3. Pay PhP 100.00 for the medical examination
  4. Go through the examination which is the usual weight, height, and eye test routine.
  5. Picture taking for the drug test.
  6. Receive results.

The staff most especially the drug test supervisor was very courteous. The doctor made sure the customers didn’t have to wait long, assisting the receptionist while waiting for the next patient.

Next step was the renewal center.

It took me about two hours or so to complete the process.  Though a bit crude, the process starts at a spot that housed an LTO officer to check whether your requirements are complete and gives you an application form to fill up.  I was a bit confused at first since they gave a number along with the form.  I waited for a few minutes for my number and apparently it wasn’t being followed. What’s the point then? Thanks to a stranger who helped me through the process. Here are the steps that I had to go through to renew my license.

  1. Go to Window 4 to submit the application form.
  2. Wait until your name is called and proceed to Window 2 for picture taking.  This is where you affix your signature as well.
  3. Wait again and proceed to Window 6 to pay the fees.
  4. Wait and go to Window 5 to claim your new license.

Since I was late in renewing my license, I had to pay an extra PhP 75.00 and another PhP 100.00 to change my last name.

I would’ve been out of there earlier but had to wait due to the lunch hour break.

The LTO East Avenue office was pretty efficient considering there were a lot of people waiting to get their license renewed.  I still think they could make an effort to make their customers feel more comfortable.  A smile would’ve helped.  Being proactive and checking whether customers are being served can also help.  Oh and the numbering system should be used.  It’s there so why not use it?

You were lucky to be in what seems to be the nicest LTO branch (QC main). Plus, maybe it is well-ventilated with air conditioning so you didn’t sweat unnecessarily. Other branches are unlike that. A friend took his license from LTO Roligon Center 505 Quirino Avenue Parañaque City. The only areas with AC are those of employees inside. Good thing he brought some bottled water or he could have dehydrated. He noted that the place was not only very humid but also very crowded. The roof directly above is probably just made out of corrugated iron hence the oven like temperature from morning to afternoon. It wasn’t a surpise anymore to see his license photo showing a haggard look.

Chen – wish their branches were more consistent. *sigh* It’s sad. Though there was no AC in the waiting area, the temperature was tolerable. Probably because we’re experiencing the cool breeze of the season. Don’t want to know what summer is going to be like. Yikes!
